The Button Box
description
As a child, I used to play with my grandmother's box of buttons. I would scatter them across the carpet, sort them by color, arrange them into compositions, and invent stories and characters for them. After my grandmother passed away, the box remained with me. Every time I open it, I remember not only her, but also the act of playing itself.
I later discovered that this memory is not unique to me. When I shared it with friends, many of them said they had also played with their grandmothers' button collections as children. A simple box of buttons turned out to be a shared cultural memory, connecting people across different families and generations.
The installation explores how everyday objects can become carriers of collective memory, and how the simple act of making something together can connect strangers through shared childhood experiences.
